Coquitlam celebrates its newest park with the official opening of Burke Mountain Pioneer Park on Saturday, May 26 from 1 – 3 p.m.
Community neighbours, Council, Wesbild, City staff and project consultants will be on hand to officially open this 4.4-acre community park and celebrate with entertainment, games and light refreshments.
Burke Mountain Pioneer Park, located at 3000 Highland Drive, is a neighbourhood-enhanced park intended to help create a sense of community in Burke Mountain and provide a focal point for socializing, as well as children’s play and recreation.The park elements are based on community feedback and include activities for all ages and accessibility levels. Features include:
- neighbourhood grass sports field,
- game tables,
- open lawn area for picnicking and informal play activities,
- community garden,
- full-sized sport court including basketball and hockey nets,
- custom play installation with rubberized surface to serve as a climbing play element,
- approximately 47 new parking spots,
- over 25 shade trees to grow with the park, and
- connections to new and existing trails.
